Dull Skin to Glowing Skin – Your Spring Skincare Routine
Now, more than any other time of the year I believe, beauty aestheticians all over the world have clients coming in to their skin clinics freaking out due to skin issues like blackheads, whiteheads, spots or dull skin! Why this time of year you may ask, when the weather outside is becoming milder and the sun is peeking through more often? The answer is simply like as in nature our skin has been in hibernation mode all through the winter. During the winter the skin renewal system has slowed down and now at this time of year when we look in the mirror we see dull, congested, older looking skin! So what can we do….
Start exfoliating 🧖♀️🤓
Snow, rain, leftover product and environmental toxins can cause buildup of dead skin cells and now is the ‘exfoliating season.’ Start using a mild skin scrub 2/3 times a week to get rid of that old, dead winter skin. At bedtime, take off your make up with a good make up remover. Then cleanse your skin with the appropriate cleanser for your skin type. Do these two steps first and then your skin is ready to be polished smooth with a nice skin scrub. If you have dry or dehydrated skin – then try mixing your cleanser with the skin scrub for a more gentle effect. Taking time to do these steps and finish off with moisturiser. If you are wanting an extra skin treat, then apply a moisturising, rejuvenating mask and leave on overnight.
All women should use skin scrubs in the evening before bedtime as it will stimulate skin and this is the reason why I prefer you do exfoliation at night rather than morning. Think of when you go outside in the morning after exfoliating and your skin has to face the outside, sometimes brisk winds or even frosty Spring mornings which are waiting to sensitise your lovely glowing skin. However, when you exfoliate at bedtime, your skin is fresh and ready to repair, renew and nourish during your sleeping hours, so that when you wake up….you have a glowing, rested skin!
Don’t overdo the moisturiser
When your skin was facing the cold winter, I encourage you to double up the moisturiser and now the opposite is true. When the temperatures are milder you simply do not need the extra moisturising protection, so lighten the load! Use lighter formulas in order that you do not cause congestion or blocked pores.
Add eye cream
If you want to prevent fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, then eye cream is a must – AM and PM. Find an eye cream with moisturisers and antioxidants to ward off the collagen destroying effects of the sun and plump up the fines lines and wrinkles that have already formed. And do not forget to add a pair of big sunglasses 😎
Always apply sunscreen
This is when you are out walking the dog and although the weather is warmer, it’s still so mild you might not feel how strong the sun is. Springtime is believed to be a high risk time for sunburns and sun damage. Apply sunscreen and then reapply if you are outside during the daytime. A good sunscreen should contain zinc oxide which it like putting mirrors on top of your skin to stop any UV rays from entering and causing havoc.
Have a fabulous Spring and enjoy 😊 the daffodils 🌼 popping through, the 🐦 birds building their new nests and your new, fresh, healthy, glowing skin.
