How to detox your skin!
January is the detox month for most of us and our bodies, however, I want you to think about detoxing the largest organ in the body… Yes, the skin! Why do you need to detox the skin, you may ask, so read on to see why!
The skin naturally detoxes but even it needs help to staying pure when faced with the following.
The pollution, which is even worse in cities, contains PAHs (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons), which can lead to dehydration, affect the skin’s barrier, inflammation, loss of elasticity and firmness, pigmentation and believe it or not …skin cancer!
Smoking can constrict blood flow in the skin for up to 90 minutes can you believe that! Your blood flow nourishes the skin with oxygen and nutrients gathered from your food. So all you smokers out there are constricting the blood flow to your skin – need I say more?!
More stress can lead to more oil production, more redness and slower cell turnover. Remember when you are stressed you produce more of the hormone Cortisol and this stimulates the oil glands in the skin. The dead skin cells then adhere to the oily surface more leading to blackheads, whiteheads and spots.
Build up of cosmetic products
Heavy use of sunscreen and make-up without deep cleansing can lead to skin dullness, congestion, irritation – all sorts of skin problems.
Remember skin can shed 30,000 dead skin cells every minute and makes around 3 1/2 fluid ounces of sweat every day, while the average person spends only 20 seconds (20 seconds!) washing his/her face. It’s no wonder skin can look tired and dull!
So now you know the ‘why’ you should detox and now I want to tell you how to do it!
Start with deep cleansing your skin especially at bedtime. Use make up remover to take off all make up first then cleanse with an exfoliating cleanser and take off the cleanser with a face flannel rinsed in lukewarm water.
Exfoliate with a face and body refiner especially if it contains antioxidants which help repair the skin.
Dry brushing your body with a firm-bristled brush before showering will help to remove dead skin cells, stimulate lymphatic fluid and improve circulation to take away the skin toxins
Eat lots of fruits and vegetables and drink at least eight glasses of water a day to flush out the toxins from the inside.
Finally, run a nice bath and pour in a cupful of Epsom salts which contains magnesium. This is not only going to help muscles relax but also detoxifies the body. Now before you step in, cleanse the face and neck deeply, then apply JL Rejuvenating Mask and relax for 20 minutes at least. This mask contains Red Tea and Antartacine. Red Tea is going to soothe irritated skin, reduce inflammation and improve the texture and skin tone. Antartacine – from the Antarctic Sea is going to stimulate collagen and elastin. This is a WOW skincare product.
